This article makes part of the theoretical framework of a research study related to the teaching of languages based on ICTs carried out at Universidad Pedagógica Nacional de Bogotá. It aims at presenting how computers have influenced the educational field as one of the elements that constitute the tools that are nowadays used in the teaching and learning process at school. It also justifies the use given to ICTs in this field. Besides this, it invites teachers to improve their competencies in the use of ICTs in order to face the challenges of the changes in education.
