Abstract

Abstract

Initial training for the exercise of school headmastership, as is referred to in the introduction of this paper is part of the selection process of school headmasters in the Spanish educational system. Such is the object of study, from a content analysis method applied to calls made by all educational authorities. The main results can show, first, that initial training, especially the induction period, decreases with changes in the basic regulation of the selection process. In turn, the development of these processes and the nature of the initial training have notorious differences in the calls reviewed. And, as a result of the discussion is the need of a basic standardization of initial training, which is considered more relevant in itself (education or higher education programs), and even the need to place it as a requirement to submit the candidature to be Headmaster. In addition, this training should build upon keys needed to improve school leadership, being a professional next to the role of educational leadership and direction for teaching.
