Abstract

Primary school teaching is a great source of information to study the “glass ceiling” in labour organizations because it is a profession with a highlighted paradox: it is a profession with a large number of women teachers but with a low number of women in direction. The low quantity of women leaders is being analized frequently by extrapolating the data from empresarial labour organizations to the teaching organization model and this distorts the real causes why women do not enter school direction.

This report is the first approximation to the hypothesis of which the low representation of teachers´women in ship responds to a process of socialization more than to conciliation problems.
