This work emerges from of the project coordinated by Sanchez, M. “Training managers and building a network of practice for the governance and management of the university” (EDU2011 -264). The purpose is to identify good management practice developed by academic leaders with the target to design and implement a training program for college manager. In Spanish universities, the teacher has assigned a triple role: as a teacher, as a researcher and as a manager. Roles played by some with previous training and some without it, as is the managing activity. Concerned about this issue we conducted interviews with university administrators who have played or are playing positions in an institution of higher education, to investigate in the access to university management, the concerns and supports to the exercise of office in the learning derived from exercise management and training needs. From what we show that university managers access to university management at certain times in their careers, through different avenues, for many reasons, and also are found along the period of management with various situations they have allowed to draw a number of learning derived from it and reclaim need for training.
