Abstract

Innovation processes are crucial for organizations, and training plays an important role in them. However, is difficult to find in the scientific literature the characteristics of training that goes along with innovation. We present in this article some results of a study whose objectives were: to identify the characteristics of training for innovation, to analyze its effectiveness, to describe success cases and to make propose in order to improve training effectiveness.
A mixed methodology was used. We realized an initial literature review; we applied 6 semi-structured interviews to expert people on this topic; 400 training managers of Spanish companies were surveyed by telephone; and three different questionnaires were administered over time, to a total of 2,754 trainees.
The main results of the research suggest that innovation should be understood as a process in which training plays an important role. Training for innovation tends to be more effective and has characteristics that facilitate greater transfer.
