Abstract

Inthetwenty-first centuryacademic debateisreflectiveofa concernofthe society of knowledge, communicationtechnologiesand new patternsofidentity, changes in youth cultureand the creation ofa new culture inthe home,societyandin public spaces. Thiscircumstancearising fromglobalizedworld, economic regionalization, technological development and unlimitedinformation thatresultis our"information society and knowledge"whose demandisbetter informed andeducatedcitizenswithgreater skillsand competenciesto createthe best conditionsinthe future.Indeed, literacyis called to be, thenecessary and fundamental prerequisitefor the development ofquality education. This briefessay addressesthe scenarioswhich could beof literacy, underglobal circumstances.

A briefanalysisin the specific contextofthe knowledge societyin Mexico,learningabout the possibility ofthe impactof literacyhabitsofthe new generation ofdigital nativesversusimmigrantswho are not yetdigital, thusmaintaining theattachmentto literacy.
