Abstract

Since 2007 the University of Pinar del Rio (UPR), Cuba, through the Center for the Study of Higher Education Sciences (CSHES) is inserted in a project for analysis of the initial situation of the students entering science careers at several universities in Spain and Latin America (AECID Project "New methodological approaches and diagnostic in introductory science courses in college") in order to identify basic faults in the training of students that prevent getting a good performance in introductory physics courses.

Currently in the UPR have been applied four methodological tools of diagnosis, through paper questionnaires, from these different data is extracted to assess the knowledge of students entering science careers, with this data we create statistical and comparative tables with a standard format for all the universities involved, determining similarities and differences between students from each university, contributing to the improvement of the teaching and learning process, all this is done manually which is cumbersome and complex, with the possibility of commit errors affecting the results, besides being a waste of resources and time, so it was decided to design a system supported by the information technology and communications (ICT) to enable the automation and management of all information generated with a friendly interface for students and teachers.
