Abstract

Several studies show that effective managers are able to lead their teams towards the improvement of educational quality, exceeding the conditions of social vulnerability and organizational weaknesses faced by the local education systems. Chile implemented in 2011 a new competition system for selecting directors for educational establishments, means by which has been covered half of the current charges. In this article, through a qualitative research methodology, some keys are identified to improve the design of the mentioned system, and other forms of selection of directors, used in different countries are analysed. Maintain a systemic point of view, have records of accredited candidates, enhance interdisciplinary work, encourage community participation, strengthen technology support processes and link the processes for selection, evaluation and training, are part of the main challenges that faces this system in order to continue improving.
