Abstract

In the first part of this work, the main characteristics of parenting as a preventive educational strategy are synthesized, reviewing its definition, justification, historical evolution, and the general characteristics of the organization of the programs. In the second part, a synthesis of various works carried out in the Basque Country is presented using different versions of the Dinkmeyer and McKay (1976/1981) Systematic Training for Effective Parenting (STEP) (PECES). ). The results of the evaluation of these works are collected and how they positively affect five main dimensions, specifically: a) the increase in learning of educational skills offered by the program b) the control of inappropriate behavior of children, c) the improving the perception of the family environment, d) the perception of the effectiveness of the program and e) the improvement of family-school-community relations.
