The study of the linguistic landscape -defined as the use of language on signs in public spaces- has seen significant development in recent years. Research in this area intersects with several disciplines, including linguistics, psychology, economics, history, urban geography, and education. This article offers a general perspective on the study of the linguistic landscape within the educational context. First, it examines the definition, scope, and methodology of linguistic landscape research. It then explores the main trends in this field as they relate to education. The linguistic landscape in public spaces serves as a valuable resource for language learning, providing authentic input. Additionally, it fosters critical awareness of languages and societal inequalities. Furthermore, the linguistic landscape within schools possesses unique characteristics and has several functions.
