Abstract

This article examines the educational impact of COVID-19, highlighting the role of the university in promoting innovation that contributes to not just mitigate the negative effects of the pandemic but to build back better. The author argues that the integration of the university's outreach, research and educational functions, aligned with the aspiration to build back better, will make it possible to increase the relevance of the university, as an institution that helps society face successfully the super complex challenges created by the pandemic.

Author Biography

Fernando Reimers, Universidad de Harvard, EE.UU.

Fernando M. Reimers es profesor de Educación Internacional y Director de la Iniciativa Global de Innovación Educativa y del Programa de Maestría en Políticas de Educación Internacional de la Universidad de Harvard. Experto en el campo de la educación global, su investigación y enseñanza se centran en comprender cómo educar a los niños y jóvenes para que puedan prosperar en el siglo XXI. Es miembro de la comisión de alto nivel de la UNESCO sobre los futuros de la educación. Desde el inicio de la pandemia de la COVID-19 ha orientado toda la actividad de la iniciativa global de innovación educativa que dirige a la generación de conocimiento que contribuya a mitigar el impacto educativo de la pandemia y a reconstruir mejor.

Ha escrito o editado cuarenta libros sobre educacion, entre los cuales los más recientes incluyen: Primary and Secondary Education during COVID-19, University and School Collaborations during a Pandemic, Una Calamidad Educativa.
